I have been working as a professional communicator for nearly three decades. Since 1987, I've owned and operated Gebroe Communications Services, a business that has helped scores of organizations communicate their messages to myriad audiences and markets.
In 1975, after graduating with honors from Ithaca College with a degree in Communications, I began my career in public relations. I worked with an amazing variety of clients — retail, corporate, travel and nonprofit organizations, to name a few broad categories. I developed and implemented successful communications programs that generated national publicity and awareness. In 1985, I became accredited by the Public Relations Society of America.
My personal and professional interests led me to open my own business in 1987. By doing so, I've been able to do what I love most, which is writing. And I have been able to help organizations and causes I truly care about. I’ve also been publishing essays in local and regional publications, and have been writing and recording commentaries for KQED-FM, San Francisco’s National Public Radio station.
I have served on the boards of Horizons Foundation and the Women’s Alcoholism Center. I’ve volunteered my time and services to numerous other organizations, including the Women’s Foundation, the Women’s Cancer Resource Center, and 826 Valencia, an organization dedicated to helping local school children with their creative writing skills.
What I bring to all my professional endeavors is:
I think Katharine Graham, publisher of The Washington Post, may have said it best: "To love what you do and feel that it matters — how could anything be more fun?"
I love what I do and I feel that it matters. It’s a lot of fun.
